We built MyWaterIQ because Americans deserve straight answers about their drinking water — not scare tactics designed to sell water filters.
MyWaterIQ provides honest, data-backed water quality reports for cities, counties, and states across the United States. Every number on this site comes directly from the EPA's Safe Drinking Water Information System (SDWIS) — the same federal database that regulators, utilities, and public health officials rely on.
We grade water systems based on actual MCL (Maximum Contaminant Level) violations and lead levels measured against the EPA's 15 ppb action level. We do not use MCLG-based detections — aspirational zero-tolerance goals that would make virtually every city in America look dangerous, and which are routinely misused by competitor sites to drive affiliate filter sales.
All data is sourced from the EPA SDWIS (Safe Drinking Water Information System), exported directly from EPA ECHO. We update our database quarterly as new EPA exports become available. Our current data reflects Q4 2024.
We cover all active Community Water Systems (CWS) and Non-Transient Non-Community Water Systems (NTNCWS) in the United States — approximately 79,000 systems serving 13,592 cities across all 50 states.
